Step by Step Instructions
- Prior to the installation of the staircase, the units should be sited in the order stated below on suitable foundations. For a standard complex of 2 units stacked on 2 units with a central staircase (see example site plan layout shown overleaf), Unit 1 should firstly be unloaded and positioned as a ground floor unit. The procedure for installation of single and double storey stacked configuration steel units by HIAB or crane (available from www.alsim.co.uk) should be followed.
- Unit 2 should be unloaded and positioned on Unit 1 in a stacked configuration.
- The required position of Unit 3 should be marked out accurately at a distance of 2500mm from Unit 1 (corner post to corner post) or by using pre-cut timbers at a length of 2500mm as spacers.
- Unload and position Unit 3 in the manner detailed above as a ground floor unit and ensure that Units 1 and 3 are parallel and flush across the ends.
- The staircase should be unloaded and all parts unpacked. Individual items 1 – 7 are shown overleaf on the Staircase Assembly Drawing.
- Position Landing Handrail (Item 7) into locating sockets on Landing Platform (Item 5), making sure the kick plate is on the inside of the landing. Secure by tightening the pre-installed bolts (Detail A).
- Position both Landing Handrails (Item 6) into locating sockets on Landing Platform (Item 5), making sure the kick plate is on the inside of the landing (see Detail D). Secure by tightening the pre-installed bolts.
- Lift the Landing Platform Assembly, created by steps 6 and 7 above, using a HIAB or crane, and position both Landing Support Legs (Item 2) into locating sockets to their highest possible position and fit the designated bolts (Detail B). Please note that the Landing Support Legs are adjustable to suit ground conditions. This step will require the use of a ladder to reach the bolt holes. The ladder must be footed, or otherwise secured to avoid slippage, at all times.
- Position the Landing Assembly up to the integrated staircase bracket on Unit 2 and align the corresponding bolt holes. Tag lines are recommended to help position the Landing Assembly and to reduce the possibility of damage to the unit or staircase. Secure using the designated fixings (see View on A-A). This step will require the use of a ladder to reach the underside of the Landing Assembly. The ladder must be footed, or otherwise secured to avoid slippage, at all times.
- When the Landing Assembly is satisfactorily secured to Unit 2, a spirit level should be used to check the position of the Landing Assembly. If necessary, the Landing Assembly should be raised or lowered using the HIAB or crane until it is level. The Landing Support Legs should be lowered to the ground and secured in position using the relevant bolts (Detail B). At this point, the HIAB or crane can be released from the load.
- Unit 4 should be unloaded and positioned above Unit 3, with care taken to avoid any impact with the Landing Assembly.
- The Landing Assembly should be secured to Unit 4 using the unit’s integrated staircase bracket and the designated fixings (see View on A-A).
- Locate Brace Bar (Item 3) between both Support Legs (Item 2). Secure using the designated fixings (see Detail C).
- The Staircase Flight should be assembled by fitting both Handrails (Item 4) into locating sockets on the outer side of Staircase Assembly (see Detail E), which are secured by tightening the pre-installed bolts.
- Lift Staircase Flight Assembly (Item 1) into position using the HIAB or crane. Tag lines are recommended to help position the Staircase Flight and to reduce the possibility of damage to the unit or staircase.
- Locate the Staircase Flight Assembly (Item 1) to Landing Platform (Item 5) using the three locating points on the Landing Platform (see View on B-B). Secure using the designated fixings. This step will require the use of a ladder to reach the underside of the Landing Assembly. The ladder must be footed, or otherwise secured to avoid slippage, at all times.
- Once secure, lower the bottom edge of the Staircase Flight Assembly to the ground and if required, pack up to the foundation level.
